INTRODUCTION
Solar Energy-one of the cleanest and greenest technologies-but still largely underutilized.Photo Voltaic (PV) cells converts solar energy directly to electrical energy
need for modelling
High cost of modules- hence optimal
utilization of available solar energy required. PV system requires special design
considerations due to unpredictable and sudden changes in weather conditions:
Solar insolation, wind speed, temperature and shading.
PV System modelling
Modelling- understand operation of systems
under various effects- variation of solar irradiance and cell temperature. PV system requires special design
due to unpredictable and sudden changes in weather conditions: Solar
insolation, wind speed, temperature and shading

modelling of PV CELLS
Most common model- single diode
circuit model- represents the electrical behaviour of p-n junction
Nonlinear characteristics of PV-
¡Insolation
and temperature variations
¡Movement
of clouds and other natural causes
¡Load
itself may vary
Nonlinear I-V characteristics modelled using current sources, diodes and resistors
VARIATIONS DUE TO MODULE TEMPERATURE
Due to environmental changes, solar
irradiation keeps on fluctuating. control mechanisms can track this
change, alter the working of PV cell to meet the load demands.Higher the solar irradiation,
higher the solar input to the cell and hence power magnitude would increase for
the same voltage value; Increase in solar irradiation causes increase in open
circuit voltage
SHADING
PV modules are ultra-sensitive to
shade. Shadings can be soft-sourced or
hard-sourced. Soft sources: significantly reduce
the light from reaching a module’s cells; roof vent, chimney and other such
distant shadings
conclusion
Mathematical modelling of PV system can be summarized. Based on the literature review and
theories, PV system is designed. Simulink-based Model of PV system using the
single-diode model of a PV solar cell is developed
